Can I track my blanket/seeds/well etc?Unfortunately we are not able to track your individual gifts. However, funds raised will go to a corresponding need - for example, by purchasing exercise books and pencils, you will be contributing to education for refugee children. How does the Star Appeal wall work? Can I write on the wall if I haven't purchased anything?You have the opportunity to write a message of support to refugees on our Star Appeal wall. We will then send them to our colleagues in the field who will share them with refugees they assist - letting them know that they are not forgotten. Writing on the refugee wall is only open to those who have made a gift purchase. Can I nominate different e-cards for each of the items in my gift basket?Once you've filled your gift basket, you'll then be able to nominate which of the items receives an e-card. If you do not want an e-card then select the 'No card' option. Why is the Star appeal so important to UNHCR's efforts?The Star Appeal is particularly important because it provides desperately needed funds for UNHCR projects around the world that receive little or no attention, often remaining under-funded. UNHCR receives only 2 per cent of its funding from the UN, relying entirely on voluntary donations from private individuals, organizations and governments. Why is UNHCR focusing on food this year?Ensuring that refugees have food and a clean water supply is an essential part of our work. Where there is freedom from hunger and malnutrition there is also hope for a better future. However, 2007 saw some of the sharpest rises in food prices ever seen and in 2008 this has accelerated - the world is now facing a global food crisis. The rise in oil prices has also increased the cost of everything from fertiliser to food transport and food processing. This has made all humanitarian projects distributing food aid far more costly - but of course we don't want to cut back on other vital areas of work such as education and and shelter, so to combat the impact of the rise in food prices we need your support more than ever. How does the secure payment process work? Will my information be safe?UNHCR takes your privacy and security seriously. We use the highest encryption rate and ultra-secure servers to ensure your information is kept safe. We log your IP address to fight illegal credit card use. This is a unique number assigned to all internet connected computers which allows authorities to track where a credit card transaction was made.
